Farmers in Georgia’s Racha-Lechkumi region have begun the grape picking bustle, while the grape harvest is coming to an end in the leading wine-producing region of Georgia, Kakheti.

This year in the country’s Racha-Lechkhumi region, about 2,500 tonnes of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties are expected to be harvested.

The famous semi-sweet Georgian red wine of Khvanchkara is made from these unique grape varieties of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli, which are harvested in the Racha-Lechkhumi region.

To support the grape harvesting process in the region, a special coordination centre for grape picking has opened in Ambrolauri, in Racha-Lechkhumi.

Head of the Georgian National Wine Agency Levan Mekhuzla said that farmers will be able to store their grape harvest starting October 10.

As for Kakheti, so far 260,000 tonnes of grapes have already processed, said the Wine Agency.
