Russia: Tomato volume in Stavropol increased by 13% - hortidaily.com

Growers in Stavropol (Russia) have picked 45.4 thousand tons of greenhouse tomatoes since the beginning of 2020, which is 13% more than in the same period of 2019. Stavropol is one of the three regions leading in greenhouse tomato crop collection, reported the first Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Stavropol region, Mr. Vyacheslav Dridiger.

The growers of Izobilnensky and Kirovsky precincts are leading in greenhouse tomato production with 16.2 and 12.3 thousand tons respectively. “Stavropol region takes the third place in the country in tomato production. In all, upon the results of 2019, 54.7 thousand tons were collected, which constitutes 6% of overall production of the Russian Federation”, reads the press release.

According to the Department for the Information Policy of Stavropol Government, systematic greenhouse development has helped increase tomato gross crop output. Within the past 6 years, 11 greenhouse investment projects have been carried out in Stavropol with overall amount of investments reaching 327.6 million euro. It allowed increase of the overall production by eight times within five years.

“Three more projects on greenhouse acreage expansion with an overall acreage of 59 ha are carried out in 2020. The launch of objects in Izobilnensky, Prodgorny and Levokumsky areas would allow an increase of gross output for another 41 thousand tons. With that the gross output should reach 141 thousand tons”, reads the press release.

The Department announced that businessmen in the agricultural sector developing greenhouse production make use of the state support measures allowing to reimburse up to 20% of factual expenditures on construction and modernization. The overall amount of subsidies provided within the past six years amounted to 28 million euro.
