Export sales of U.S. corn fell as expected in the week ended May 27, as Chinese buyers were largely absent.

For the 2020/21 marketing year corn sales totaled 531,100 metric tons, and for the 2021/2022 period they reached 439,500. The result comes after a total of 6.2 million tons were sold in the previous week.

Japan was the main destination of U.S. corn exports, with 179,500 tons, followed by China's 158,500 tons.

The drop was expected. Grain traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had forecast corn sales to total between 350,000 tons and 1.2 million tons.

Meanwhile, wheat had a net sales reduction of 33,300 metric tons for the 2020/2021 marketing year and net sales of 398,300 for the next period.

Soybeans had net sales of 17,800 for the current year and 180,300 for the 2021/2022 period.

Grain traders had forecast wheat exports to be in a range of 175,000 to 500,000 metric tons, and soybeans between 350,000 and 500,000 tons.
