Lynn Wunderlich on Best Practices for Powdery Mildew and Early Season Management Techniques
April 14th – PLACERVILLE, CA: All grape growers, vintners, wineries and interested parties are invited to join us on Wednesday, April 21, at 6:30pm, for a Zoom discussion on Best Practices for Powdery Mildew and Early Season Management Techniques with our guest speaker Lynn Wunderlich, UC Cooperative Extension Central Sierra Farm Advisor.
Wunderlich will provide a timely discussion on powdery mildew and early season vineyard management cultural practices. Powdery mildew control is a top priority for grape growers as mistakes in timing and application of materials can have dire consequences for fruit quality. In addition, Wunderlich will review some basic irrigation rules for what looks to be a long, dry growing season.

According to Wunderlich, “Bud break is here and this promises to be a challenging growing season. Why is powdery mildew a perennial problem for some growers, even though we have discussed management of this key grape disease many times? I will address some of the key pitfalls of powdery mildew management and it all begins now! I will also give a review of considerations for irrigation.”
Some of Wunderlich’s specialties include: viticulture and pomology for the foothills; sprayer calibration; Integrated Pest Management (IPM); and, biological control methods. She began working as a UCCE Farm Advisor for El Dorado and Amador counties in the Fall of 2000 and our growers have gained from her extensive knowledge of viticulture and agriculture in our counties.
