GENESEO, Ill. — Wyffels Hybrids welcomed Idris Amusan and Devin Nichols to its team of industry-leading corn breeders. Combined, Amusan and Nichols bring more than 32 years of plant breeding and genetics experience to Wyffels.

“Idris and Devin have skills and experiences that complement our existing team extremely well,” said Shane Meis, director of research. “Their expertise will help us continue elevating the Wyffels independent corn breeding program.”

Amusan earned a doctorate in plant breeding and genetics from Purdue University. For the last 10 years, he managed a highly successful commercial corn breeding program in Ames, Iowa.

Amusan has received several significant awards and honors, including selection as a Norman E. Borlaug Fellow in 2008.

“Idris’ passion and talent for corn breeding is evident when you meet him,” Meis said. “It’s clear he embodies the same core qualities of his corn breeding peers at Wyffels.”

Before joining Wyffels Hybrids, Nichols was a corn breeder for Monsanto/Bayer for 12 years. His career achievements include the development of many industry-leading inbred lines and significant commercial line contributions.

Nichols holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“Devin is excited to work closely with our customers and sales team in the field, which is very different from his previous experience,” Meis said.

Adding Amusan and Nichols reinforces Wyffels Hybrids’ long-term investment to continue bringing industry-leading genetics to its customers.

With six team members, the Wyffels corn breeding team delivers maximum focus and coverage for developing products specifically tailored for the central Corn Belt.

“Idris and Devin are guided by the same mission as the rest of the team at Wyffels Hybrids,” Meis said. “We relentlessly work together serving corn growers in the pursuit of a more productive and profitable crop.”
