MO Corn Growers – China buys corn but for how long?
Missouri Corn Growers President Gary Marshall credits the US/China trade deal for China buying significant amounts of US corn for the first time ever starting last year.
“The trade agreement we have with China now I think really has paid HUGE dividends for corn farmers. And anytime corn farmers are making money that means everybody in the rural communities are making money.”
But Marshall says China has been known to be fickle and who knows if they’ll keep buying US corn after the second year of the trade deal.
Jay Schutte, chair of the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, says that’s why the focus cannot be JUST China when it comes to trade…
“And I don’t know if it needs to be bilateral, multi-lateral, what have you but we need to encourage more trade in the United States. We can’t depend solely on China.”
Marshall and Schutte addressed Missouri Corn Growers Association members this morning during their annual business meeting.
