The show must go on for elotes, even during the coronavirus pandemic.
Organizer and owner of El Chistoso Elotes Robert Reyes originally planned to have the free "Roasted Corn Festival" last March at Copernicus Park but postponed it twice in the COVID-19 era. It is now scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at a private lot in the China Grove area (located at 6708 U.S. HWY 87 E.).

Although the festival is free, guests must have a ticket to get in, which can be found on eventbrite.com. Reyes said there will be temperature checks, a face mask mandate, and hand sanitizer booths at the festival.
The 10-acre property will also have about 33 vendors, much-like a farmer's market where you can find food, jewelry and products from local businesses, Reyes said. The main course? Everything and anything corn (Mexican corn trimmed with Hot Cheetos, white corn with queso fresco, roasted corn, Torchy's Tacos, kettle corn popcorn), as well as fair favorites like fruit cups, mangonadas
Reyes planned to have live music and BYOB for his pre-pandemic scheduled event, but those activities won't be at the festival anymore, he said. Reyes noted, however, that there will be large speakers playing music.
He said he doesn't expect more than 250 people to attend.
"This is a place where we can enjoy purchasing products from local vendors in a safe way," Reyes said.
