MADISON, Ohio — Get your glasses ready. Tis' the season for ice wine.

On Sunday morning, Grand River Cellars in Geneva began picking grapes to make their sweet drink, and 3News Meteorologist Matt Standridge was on scene to show you how it's done.

Each year, the vineyard waits until the coldest nights of the year to pick the grapes at their sweetest, roughly when temperatures dip below 18 degrees Fahrenheit for six or more hours.

Due to the nature of the drink, weather plays a big role in getting the perfect crop for ice wine. Only a few areas in the world can successfully make ice wine.

The water inside the grape freezes, but the sugar remains, allowing the grape juice to become even more concentrated. That's when the grapes are picked by hand.

After the grapes are pulled from the vineyard, pressing begins.

It seems simple, but that's what makes it great.
