Ukraine 2020 corn crop seen falling sharply - traders, analysts - Successful Farming

KYIV, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Ukraine, the world's fourth-largest corn exporter, is likely to harvest between 26 and 33 million tonnes this year compared with 35.9 million tonnes in 2029, several Ukrainian trading houses and analysts said on Thursday.

Severe drought in summer has reduced the harvested area and corn yield sharply, they said.

The Ukrainian economy ministry and APK-Inform agriculture consultancy are showing the highest crop outlook of around 33 million tonnes, while traders see the output at a maximum 28 million tonnes.

Ukraine, which sowed 5.4 million hectares for 2020 corn crop, had harvested 17.6 million tonnes of corn from 66% of the sown area as of Nov. 2, the economy's ministry data showed.

The country has exported 2.65 million tonnes of corn so far the 2020/21 season versus 4.39 million tonnes in the same period last season.

Despite a slower pace of exports, Ukrainian meat producers this week asked the government to limit corn exports in a bid to prevent a jump in fodder and meat prices. (Reporting by Pavel Polityuk; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
