About 600 tonnes of Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties have been picked in western Georgian region of Racha as of October 12, where the harvest started last week, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

This year about 2,500 tonnes of the Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grape varieties are expected to be harvested in Racha. These are the grape varieties which are blended to make the famous semi-sweet Georgian red wine of Khvanchkara.

To support the grape harvest process in the region, a special coordination centre for grape picking has opened in Ambrolauri, in Racha-Lechkhumi.

Meanwhile, the grape harvest is coming to an end in the eastern Kakheti region, where 267,000 tonnes of grapes have already been processed.
