Syngenta has launched the campaign Un País de Tomates 2.0 (Tomato country 2.0) to present the company's new tomato varieties.

Rafael Salinas, Syngenta's Product Manager for Tomatoes, said that they are developing rustic varieties with a high level of resistance to pests and diseases; varieties that are easy to grow and require less labor, but which can also adapt to the conditions of the main production areas and to different crop cycles.

One of the new varieties presented by Syngenta is the Koshima (604029), a round red cherry tomato for loose harvesting. It offers a 15-20% greater production within its segment thanks to its high flowering and setting capacity. It stands out for the homogeneity of the calibers throughout the cycle, with a diameter of between 25 and 28 mm. The fruits have a bright red color, are firm and have a good shelf life and good resistance to cracking and microcracking.

"It is a very rustic plant, which can be planted from mid-July to mid-September under plastic, but also from January to March, obtaining good results under mesh and in the open ground. It is being grown in the main production areas: the coast and interior of Granada, areas of the Poniente and Levante of Almería, and even in Murcia," says Salinas.

Another novelty is the MR16229, a variety of the Marmande or grooved typology that stands out for its high productivity and quality. Its fruits have a dark color, with a very intense green top, and they are heart-shaped. This attractive and recognizable appearance is highly appreciated by the market. Also, the taste of the MR16229 is very good.

"The MR16229 can be grown from the end of July to the end of September, making it possible to have a high-value, flavorful product in the fall and winter months, when the demand is high."

The Dolmen (SD16517) is a large-sized plum tomato for the domestic market. "It is suitable for spring-summer production under mesh in Murcia and transplants are carried out in early August in Almería," says Rafael Salinas.
