The second grape market which was opened in Al Khader town west of Bethlehem represents an opportunity for Palestinian farmers to market their grape products at a time when they face problems marketing their land products for political and local reasons.

The second grape market was opened Via an initiative from Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Municipality of Al Khader and Agricultural Relief and the Office of the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture with the aim of helping farmers market their products.

Palestinian farmers said that the most important problems that face them are settlement and occupation, which seeks to prevent them from reaching their lands, In addition to their losses due to imported grapes from Israel that affect prices.

They also added that the municipalities' prevention of them in Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Jerusalem prevented them from marketing grapes, especially in light of the Corona pandemic.

The farmers expressed their thanks and appreciation to those in charge of the market, noting that the market succeeded in marketing the products despite the difficult conditions they suffer from.

According to the organizers, the market has succeeded in helping farmers sell nine tons of grapes produced by farmers in the village of Al Khader, in addition to the fact that it participated in concluding deals between vegetable traders and farmers directly.



Ahmed Salah the mayor of Al-Khader, welcomed the attendees and thanked the Bethlehem Governorate Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Palestinian Agricultural Relief, Al-Khader Municipality, and the Bethlehem Governorate Agriculture Directorate for their permanent cooperation in order to support farmers in general and grape growers in the town of Al-Khader in particular, stressing that this meadow and the market carry several messages to support Farmers.

The mayor of Al Khader said in an interview with PNN that this market is very important for the farmers of Al Khader town, which suffers from Israeli settlement and bypass roads, as most of the town's lands lie behind these areas, indicating that the town of Al Khader produces a third of the national product of grape products in Palestine.

Salah indicated that the main product of farms is grapes, explaining that the most important problems for farmers are settlement, bypass roads, and occupation measures that prevent farmers from reclaiming their lands and finding agricultural roads for them, which contributed to increasing the suffering of farmers and the difficulty of their access to their lands.



Dr. Samir Hazboun, head of the Bethlehem Governorate Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said in an interview with the Palestine News Network (PNN) that this event today is on the occasion of organizing the second market for marketing grapes of all kinds.

indicating that this activity happening with the aim of marketing farmers' products in Indirect support for farmers to preserve their lands, especially those that are targeted and surrounded by Israeli settlements.



Hazboun invited all citizens of Bethlehem to visit the market in the open area, where safety means from COVID 19 were provided with an emphasis on the importance of buying agricultural products in order to support farmers, stressing that this market is the second experience that we go through in an attempt to strive to support farmers and enhance their steadfastness.

The Chairman of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce thanked all farmers for their steadfastness in their land, explaining that he had benefited a lot from his cooperation with farmers, stressing the importance of teamwork for the development of agricultural work.

For his part, Ziad Salah, Director of Palestinian Agricultural Relief in Bethlehem Governorate, said in his interview with PNN that this activity serves farmers in marketing grapes, especially those whose lands are located in settlement areas. adding that framers need the establishment of this tent for the second year.

Salah explained that PARC is working to serve farmers in other areas, such as helping them to distribute and market their products, explaining that he hopes citizens of Bethlehem will come and buy their products because this is part of supporting farmers who are suffering greatly due to the occupation and other measures.



The Director of Agricultural Relief in Bethlehem indicated that the market, which will last for five days, contains all kinds and best quality of grapes in addition to other agricultural products, stressing that the relief seeks to help farmers and support marketing their products.

Magdy Amr Director Agriculture Ministry office in Bethlehem Governorate: 'We work as organizers, guidance and marketing to help farmers, indicating that the grape product suffers from several reasons, such as the Israeli targeting, the corona, and the lack of purchasing power, expressing his hope that the market will succeed in helping farmers market their products, calling on citizens to visit the market and support them by purchasing products.
