Colombia's grape exports increased by more than 600% in 2020, according to ProColombia figures, going from 26,236 dollars in 2019 to $201,584 last year.
One of the main destinations for this fruit was the Netherlands, which in 2020 made purchases for 199,311 dollars, i.e. 1,377.7% more than the 13,488 dollars of 2019. Meanwhile, exports to Curaçao and Aruba decreased by 83.8% and 21.9%, respectively.
Valle del Cauca was the department that contributed the total grape exports to the Netherlands, while exports from Bogota and Atlantico decreased by 49.4% and 70.9%, respectively.
“Colombia has the potential for growing grapes as various regions of the country have a dry climate with strong winds, as well as soils with a high content of organic matter. In addition, fresh grape imports have been growing in international markets, with an annual increase of 4% in the last 4 years, according to TradeMap. This represents a great opportunity for our country, in order to continue diversifying our export basket,” said Flavia Santoro, the president of ProColombia,
