69% of U.S. soybeans, 64% of corn rated good to excellent

The USDA’s national crop condition ratings for corn and soybeans were down on the week. The ratings for both crops show the impact of a wide range of weather, from drought or near drought conditions to last week’s derecho.

As of Sunday, 64% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, 5% less than a week ago, with 88% at the dough making stage, compared to the five-year average of 82%, 44% dented, compared to 39% on average, and 5% having reached maturity, matching the usual pace.

69% of U.S. soybeans are called good to excellent, 3% lower, with 92% at the pod setting stage, compared to 87% on average, and 4% dropping leaves, matching the normal speed.

97% of winter wheat is harvested, compared to 98% on average.

71% of spring wheat is rated good to excellent, 1% above the prior week, with 49% of the crop harvested, compared to 62% typically in late August.

46% of cotton is in good to excellent condition, an improvement of 1%, with 88% at the boll setting stage, compared to 89% on average, and 22% of bolls opening, compared to 19% on average.

76% of rice is rated good to excellent, unchanged, with 93% headed, compared to the usual pace of 96%, and 17% harvested, matching the typical rate.

24% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, a drop of 8%.
